Dr. La Ron Cotton grew up in the cities of Compton and Carson California. It was at the age of 2, he knew he wanted to become a doctor after spending a significant amount of his early childhood in hospitals due to chronic asthma. From the eighth grade through his senior year in high school he participated in “Med-Cor”, a college prep program hosted at the University of Southern California.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography Environmental Studies from University of California, Los Angeles. Upon graduating from UCLA, he pursued a career in teaching. After two years of teaching fulltime, Dr.Cotton decided to complete his graduate studies in public health. He continued to work part-time as a substitute teacher through his graduate and doctoral studies.

During graduate school at Loma Linda University School of Public Health, he met a group students studying dentistry that encouraged him to apply to dental school. After shadowing several dentists, and researching the profession, he decided to pursue a career in dentistry.

Dr. Cotton received his Master’s Degree in Health Administration from Loma Linda University in 2002, continuing on with his education, he earned a Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from the University of California San Francisco in 2009. During that time, he was awarded honors in his pediatric internship. After graduating from dental school, he went on to advance his dental training in a general practice residency program at Columbia University/Harlem Hospital Center in New York City. It was this intense experience that provided him with the tools to provide excellent quality dental care to his patients.

Dr. La Ron Cotton is a humanitarian at heart. As a dentist, he has volunteered in the country of Haiti, where he provided free dental care to people in the rural communities who do not have access to oral health services. In addition, he has also provided his services at local health fairs in Los Angeles County to adults and children in underserved communities. Currently, he is serving as a Major in the United States Army Reserves, and works for the California Department of Correction and Rehabilitation. He considers it to be a badge of honor to serve our soldiers and this country.

Dr. Cotton is affiliated with the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, San Fernando Valley Dental Society, Angel City Dental Society, and has participated in several study clubs with the West Los Angeles Dental Society. In his spare time, he loves working out at the gym, hiking, watching movies, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. His personal philosophy, is to be caring, gentle, provide excellent service, and to treat his patients like members of his family.
